Pedro Pascal, from The Last of Us, will play Reed Richards for the first time in the forthcoming film The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Prior to Pedro, John Krasinski portrayed the title character in the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
However, for the next 2025 MCU film, the filmmakers replaced John with the 50-year-old Chilean American actor.
Director Matt Shakman has now addressed why he chose to hire a different actor, particularly Pascal, as the comic book character.
According to Shakman, Richards is a character with various obligations, thus he sought an actor with a diverse range.
In an interview with Empire, the filmmaker explained, "I was looking for an actor who could contain multitudes."
"There's the highly intellectual Reed Richards, and then there's the action hero, leader, husband, father, and friend. "I knew Pedro could do it all."
Meanwhile, the Narcos actor revealed why he took up the role without hesitation.
He stated, "I see an endless number of levels to this persona. He engages in the highest kind of catastrophizing."
"A brain that understands risks mathematically while simultaneously being emotionally available. "It was an interesting contradiction," Pedro stated.
The new Fantastic Four picture, which is backed by Walt Disney, will be released on July 25.
