This item has been updated with a new video showing a side-by-side comparison of the Mustang GTD's first and second official circuits around the Nurburgring. Ford claims the juxtaposition of the onboard film provides spectators the chance to watch where the GTD and its driver, Dirk Müller, shaved off nearly 5.5 seconds from the first lap. We've shared the video above so you can see for yourself.
Ford expressed disappointment with the 2025 Mustang GTD's time of 6:57.685 at the Nurburgring. Despite being the first American-built production vehicle to breach the seven-minute mark around the Nordschleife, a combination of high heat and damp conditions pushed the GTD back. At the time, the manufacturer affirmed its ambitions to return for another run. That mission has been completed.
The latest official time for the Mustang GTD around the Nurburgring Nordschleife is 6:52.072, which is more than 5.5 seconds faster than Ford's previous attempt. Ford's factory driver Dirk Müller completed the lap, like he did on the previous run.
The speedier time was not only due to improved weather. According to Ford, the GTD team improved the powertrain calibration, tightened the chassis with increased torsional stiffness, adjusted the ABS and traction-control behavior, and optimized aerodynamic features.

Müller's lap in August ranked the GTD seventh quickest among production sports cars on the Nürburgring's official records. The latest run puts the GTD ahead of the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 with the Manthey Performance Kit with a time of 6:55.737, but still a long way behind the 6:49.328 posted by the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
While the GTD's time is an official production-car record, the vehicle has not yet gone into production for consumers. According to Ford, this will begin this spring, with prices starting somewhere north of $300,000.
