Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves will reunite for another romantic thriller following Speed, which made fans hope they could date in real life.
The two previously said that they each developed crushes on each other while filming Speed, but the other person was unaware.
A source now claims there was a particular reason why it did not work out.
"Sandra always wanted a relationship, but Keanu was too much of a bohemian back in those days," according to a source. "They might wonder, 'what if,' but it wasn't in the cards for them."
In recent years, both performers have expressed a desire to work on another movie together.
"Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera," Sandra stated during a 50 MPH podcast interview with Reeves.
"Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or walkers?" she said. "Are we on little scooters at Disneyland?"
Keanu chimed in, saying, "It feels like there's a seductive pull to it, like something was left undone. I'd want to work with you again before our eyes close."
Now that a reunion endeavor has been revealed, a source claims that the two kept their plans a secret until the project was completed.
"Sandra and Keanu really clicked while they were making Speed and became good friends," a source told Radar Online.
"Both being private people, they knew they could talk about stuff, and it wouldn't go further," according to the informant. "They've really been there for each other through all the ups and downs over the years."
