Expect a new round of "Half-Life 3 confirmed" memes. The newest rumor about Valve's long-awaited next entry in the Half-Life series states that the game is presently "playable, end-to-end" and might potentially be unveiled in the summer, followed by a winter release this year. Tyler McVicker, who is well-known for reporting on Valve rumors, made the suggestion during his last Q&A broadcast. According to McVicker, the game is presently playable from start to finish, which he believes puts it on track for an announcement and release this year.
Aside from McVicker's hours-long livestream, there have been some recent signs concerning Valve's development on its widely anticipated project. On the CG Voices Podcast in March, Valve concept artist Evgeniy Evstratiy claimed to have been there in the room where Valve created Half-Life 3. In the same month, Gabe Follower, another Valve leaker, said that Half-Life 3 will be the "end of Gordon's adventure," perhaps indicating a non-cliffhanger finish to one of gaming's finest franchises. Aside from these claims, internet sleuths uncovered code mentioning HLX, which is commonly assumed to be the codename for Half-Life 3, in significant upgrades to Deadlock and DotA 2.
While these reports are unsubstantiated, they are encouraging indications of life for Half-Life 3. During his livestream, McVicker stated that the HLX project will not be a virtual reality game like Half-Life: Alyx, and that there will be procedural generation aspects other than landscape creation and roguelike dynamics. Before you get too excited, keep in mind that Half-Life 2 recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, and Valve has yet to announce any plans for a sequel.
