King Charles and Prince William are still unhappy with Prince Harry for his "betrayal" and continue to disregard the estranged royal's appeals for reconciliation.
According to rumors, William has no place for Harry, despite the monarch's hidden desire for reconciliation with his beloved son.
Given the present schism between the brothers, it's difficult to fathom a period when they enjoyed a really close kinship. Charles had to step in at times since William was having difficulty adjusting and missed Harry so much.
Colleen Harris, the former press secretary of King Charles, described William's time at St Andrews University in 2001 in Robert Lacey's book Battle of Brothers.
The 19-year-old was "really nervous when he arrived" at the time, especially given the media's continual surveillance of him.
"All of the press was there, cameras from all around the world, and it just struck him. "He was very unsteady for a while after that," Harris said.
He was also touched by a female admirer while on an outing, which exacerbated the matter. And things did not get better for a long time.
"As the term progressed, the winter weather soon grew cold, grey and austere, and he found it difficult to make new friends," stated the author's note. "He missed his brother too."
However, Charles stepped in when William showed a wish to transfer to another university.
"I don't believe I was homesick. "I was more daunted," William remarked of his experience. "My father was very understanding about it and realised I had the same problem as he had probably had."
He went on: "We chatted a lot and in the end we both realised—I definitely realised—that I had to come back."
Earlier this month, Prince Harry claimed in a BBC interview that the King is not speaking with him owing of his legal need for security. He also remarked, "I'd love to reconcile with my family. There's no use in fighting anymore.
Although, according to royal analyst Hilary Fordwich, it is "extremely unlikely" that the King will meet with his estranged son since he has "destroyed any trust with his public airing of grievances in his security dispute".
However, Harry has a tiny chance of regaining his father's confidence. If the King can find a way to rejoin with Harry, he may be able to reconnect his two sons.
