A World War II veteran said he received a unique present from Prince Harry the day after King Charles and other senior royals paid tribute to war heroes at the commemorations honoring the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.
King Charles' youngest son presented Private Joseph Hammond with a unique gift ahead of his 100th birthday.
Hammond disclosed in a social media post on May 7 that he received an Invictus Games medal coin from the Duke of Sussex.
"It was a great honour to welcome the @WeAreInvictus team to Ghana, just ahead of my birthday this Saturday!" Hammond wrote.
Hammond presented Prince Harry with a copy of his memoir, "in recognition of his unwavering commitment to veterans' welfare."
On May 5, King Charles was photographed interacting with Second World War veteran Joe Mines at a tea gathering in Buckingham Palace after the military procession commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The British royal family staged a tea gathering for roughly 50 servicemen and other wartime survivors within the castle.
The government had planned a series of festivities to commemorate the anniversary of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender, which took effect on May 8, 1945.
