Prince Harry recalls his early conflicts with the British monarchy after Meghan Markle married into the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, said in a long letter released with sussex.com on Friday that his wife, whom he married in May 2018, was not evaluated for security until he stepped in.
"In November 2017, before the Royal Household's role on RAVEC was revealed, this secretive committee determined that when my wife joined the royal family, she should not be protected." Only until I requested for the name of the individual ready to take that risk did they reconsider their decision," Prince Harry wrote in the letter.
Prince Harry's remark came shortly after a UK court denied his legal petition to reinstate the state-funded protection he said was wrongfully terminated when he and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties in 2020.
Hours after the judge's dismissal, the BBC broadcast an interview with the Duke of Sussex in which he declared his desire for "reconciliation" with his family and father, King Charles.
Prince Harry and Meghan have two children: son Prince Archie, who is now five, and daughter Princess Lilibet, who is three. They have been living in Meghan's home state of California since announcing their decision to lay down from their royal duties in the UK in January 2020.
