Truecaller launched a new tool on Monday to help customers sift out real messages in an inbox that is becoming increasingly cluttered with spam texts. Message IDs uses artificial intelligence (AI) to scan the SMS inbox and identify communications such as OTPs, delivery updates, ticket booking status, and more from certified organizations. According to Truecaller, these communications are marked with a green checkmark in the inbox.
Message IDs for Truecaller
Truecaller says it has launched Message IDs in India and 30 other countries. This function uses AI and large language models (LLMs) to do on-device SMS inbox scanning to detect essential business communications. The business emphasizes that the user data is secure owing to on-device processing.
Message IDs on Truecaller are available to all users, not only Premium members. It comes with support for a variety of global and Indian languages, including English, Hindi, Swahili and Spanish.
According to the company, as it requires the "Read SMS" and "Display Over Other Apps" permissions to offer real-time notifications of vital warnings. Truecaller has added Green Message IDs to detect legitimate communications from fraudulent or faked ones. These are marked with a checkmark to indicate that the communication is from a reputable and confirmed business. This includes communications such as bank alerts, OTPs, delivery updates, airline schedules, and payment reminders.
In addition to the aforementioned, Truecaller may recognize and highlight additional essential messages, even if they do not fit into the traditional SMS category. Message IDs also summarise the relevant facts in messages using AI and emphasize what is vital, allowing the user to take swift action. It shows above the original content and has the "AI generated summary" tag.
Truecaller's release of AI-powered Message IDs builds on the recent inclusion of API support for iPhone, which allows for features like real-time caller identification and automated filtering of spam phone calls on Apple devices. This puts the iOS version of the app on level with its Android equivalent, which has provided the aforementioned functionalities for years.
