Anthropic now allows Claude users to create and share AI-powered interactive applications

 

Anthropic introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) function for Claude on Wednesday. This new capability will enable users to construct interactive AI-powered apps using the chatbot. Once built, users may host and distribute their applications on the platform, allowing others to utilize them. Interestingly, when others use these apps, the creator will not be charged for the application programming interface (API). Instead, this will be charged to the user's subscription. This capability expands on last year's Artifact function.

In a press article, the AI company described the new capability. Code creation is nothing new for the chatbot, and with the inclusion of Artifact in June 2024, a sandbox-style window within Claude where the AI and the user may work on a coding project, the business has considerably increased the platform's coding capabilities.

Anthropic is now extending Artifact by allowing Claude to create and execute code within the environment. As a result, users may now preview and interact with the final version of an AI-powered software. Furthermore, once constructed, users may host their applications on Anthropic's servers and share them with others. The AI integration in these apps is powered by Claude's API.

Interestingly, if another user uses these applications, the creator will not have to pay for the API costs. Instead, it will be charged to the user's subscription once they have authenticated themselves using their Claude account. Nobody is required to handle the API keys.

Anthropic stated that this functionality will allow users to integrate the Claude API into their artifacts. The capability will also allow them to handle files and construct custom user interfaces (UIs) using React. Users will also have the ability to manually customize any item.

However, this new feature presently does not accept external API calls, there is no possibility to add persistent or permanent storage (data is destroyed when the app is stopped), and it only supports text-based completions API, limiting the types of apps that developers may create. Notably, it is now available in beta to all Claude users.
