Bella Ramsey recently discussed their gender identification, noting that online gaming played an important role in their self-discovery.
The Last of Us actor, who rose to prominence for her role as Ellie in Season 2023, lauded the virtual world's privacy.
In an exclusive interview with Them magazine, they said, "When you had to choose between a female and a boy persona, I would choose the boy since I could. Gaming is an incredible area to explore. I believe there is a common narrative that it is not a safe area; in some circumstances, certainly, but in so many others, it is a free and open space."
The 21-year-old also said that the famous children's game Club Penguin helped them explore their gender identity.
They said, "Club Penguin is where I investigated my gender identification. My penguin was named Tomboy Bella and was red. I practiced Karate on the Karate Hill. I was having a great time in Club Penguin. You may be whomever you want behind that avatar."
Later in the conversation, the Game of Thrones veteran voiced her ambition to play a trans or non-binary role in the future.
"I've never played a nonbinary person in anything or a trans person." Bella stated. "Getting to do it would be really wonderful. "I wanted to be challenged, constantly challenged."
Bella has received great acclaim for her roles in The Last of Us and Game of Thrones.
