The Incredibles franchise may become even more fantastic, as Pixar has made some interesting adjustments behind the scenes.
According to reports, the third installment of the renowned superhero story will be directed by Elemental filmmaker Peter Sohn, a significant departure from the franchise's last director, animation veteran Brad Bird.
Bird, who wrote and directed both The Incredibles (2004) and Incredibles 2 (2018), contributed to the franchise's global success.
The two films grossed more than $1.8 billion at the global box office and received critical praise, with the first winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Film.
Bird will return to write the screenplay for the third picture, but he will not direct it.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, his current commitment to Skydance's sci-fi thriller Ray Gunn, which is in pre-production, might explain the shift in directorial duties.
The Incredibles followed Bob and Helen Parr, a married couple of former superheroes voiced by Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter, as they attempt to live a peaceful suburban life with their three children after being driven into hiding by a government edict forbidding superpowers.
The original film was released in 2004 and soon became a cultural milestone. Its long-awaited sequel debuted 14 years later in 2018 and grossed a whopping $1.24 billion worldwide.
The next year, Disney delighted fans by revealing The Incredibles 3 at the D23 Expo in August 2024.
