King Charles is said to be "hurt" and "appalled" by the savage move he was covertly plotting amid the developing schism.
The monarch, who is not on speaking terms with his estranged son as a result of Harry's current legal struggle, found that the Duke of Sussex wanted to cut all links with the royal family by adopting his mother, Princess Diana's family name, Spencer, and abandoning Mountbatten-Windsor.
According to royal analyst Richard Fitzwilliams, Harry's decision was "deeply hurtful" to his cancer-stricken father, who apparently still has a soft place for him.
Royal historian Marlene Koenig told Us Weekly that the King's refusal to communicate with Harry was not deliberate, but rather a result of the court struggle. He was instructed not to contact his kid to avoid legal ramifications, even if he wanted to.
"He couldn't legally talk to him about it," a source explained.
The historian stated that Charles is using "tough love" with Harry.
"Charles never stopped loving Harry, but he doesn't want to [cause] any more tension within the family," Marlene told the newspaper. "He can't bring his two sons together — that's something they need to do."
She kept going: "It must be awfully painful for the king that he doesn't see his grandchildren and that he can't talk to his son for fear of what will happen, but he's keeping his distance until they can find a way to talk."
