Building the Band, Liam Payne's final effort before his untimely demise, is finally getting a release.
Following great anticipation, Netflix released the first look at the late singer's postmortem performance, which was shot before the One Direction star's sad death on October 16, 2024, after falling from a third-floor balcony.
During Netflix's Tudum live event on Saturday, May 31, AJ McLean, who will host the show, claimed it is "unlike anything you have ever seen before — trust me," before giving the live audience the first look.
The Backstreet Boys member went on to say, "Our judge and mentor, Nicole Scherzinger, and guest judges Kelly Rowland and the late Liam Payne, are from some of the biggest bands of all time. This presentation is centered about one word: Chemistry. And believe me when I say that excellent chemistry is essential in any band.
In the preview, the vocalists enter the studio, meet other artists, and talk about the necessity of chemistry and the difficulties of finding bandmates without first meeting.
Near the end of the preview, the vocalists click a button, similar to The Voice, to indicate their interest in collaborating with other musicians.
Building the Band was announced in August 2024, with filming beginning that summer. Unfortunately, just a few months after filming was completed, Payne died in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
His death shocked everyone, and Netflix stated on May 14, 2025, that the show will run as scheduled, with Payne appearing posthumously.
