Meghan Markle's engagement with Netflix extends well beyond her sitcom, With Love, Meghan, which is poised to return for a second and third season.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined the streaming behemoth in 2020, after leaving their prominent royal jobs. At the time, the firm gave the pair a whopping $15 million upfront payment, with the remainder used to create content.
The five-year deal, which is supposed to end this year, has already been renewed with some significant adjustments, demonstrating the company's sensible actions to prevent repeating their mistakes.
Journalist Esther Krakue stated on The Sun's Royal Exclusive show that the pair produced the only truly successful initiative with Harry and Meghan, because Invictus and Polo did not quite hit the mark with spectators.
She also stated that the significant modifications in the transaction may now be the consequence of the company's remorse with the Sussexes.
"I don't think they've got any value for money with this couple," she told me. "It was obviously a business risk taking them on."
She went on, "I guess two years into it, they realized they'd put money into the world's most boring marriage, who required a lifetime supply of money to pay for their security. Harry genuinely stated, 'I was offered this and I needed to pay for my family's protection.
Esther also stated that Meghan's work is "not box office in terms of entertainment quality" since she is now hesitant to expose any more intimate details, especially given the continuing royal feud.
"I want to know the juicy stuff that should make her interesting, but she's so terrified to tell the public," she told me. "It was clear from the first episode that this is, the way she sees herself and who she actually is are quite different."
