King Charles' legacy might be jeopardized if his continuing conflict with Prince Harry continues to put a pall over the Royal Family.
Since stepping down from royal responsibilities in 2020 with Meghan Markle and permanently settling to the United States, the Duke of Sussex has remained estranged from his father, King Charles III. After five years, the divide shows no signs of repairing.
The separation was particularly visible during Charles' recent visit to Canada to inaugurate Parliament in Ottawa, while Harry was in China for a sustainable travel conference.
Valentine Low, a royal writer and novelist, has cautioned that if the conflict between King Charles and Prince Harry is not healed, it has the potential to "damage Charles' legacy."
However, he said that Harry's recent explosive BBC interview, in which the Duke stated Charles "won't speak to me" and expressed worry about "how much longer my father has" while the King is undergoing cancer treatment, made reconciliation much more difficult.
"It wasn't intended to be an attack, but it would be interpreted as such," Low told People.
Speaking on the possibility of a family reunion, Low stated that there does not appear to be a "good angel" whispering in the King's ear to "be a good dad and make the first move."
Still, he feels the public understands Charles' tough situation and can "separate the private drama from his public role."
