Princess Anne paid a surprise visit to Barbados over the weekend, a decision that held significant symbolic weight for the monarchy.
According to a Buckingham Palace official statement posted on social media on Tuesday, June 3, the 74-year-old monarch met with President Sandra Mason and Prime Minister Mia Mottley during a busy diplomatic trip over the weekend.
"Thank you to everyone who welcomed The Princess Royal to Barbados this weekend!" stated the press release.
Although Barbados deposed the British queen as head of state in 2021, the weekend visit was interpreted as a sign of long-term cooperation.
"Barbados proudly became a parliamentary republic in 2021. "And yet, the bonds between our countries remain strong," remarked interim Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Sandra Husbands, according to Barbados Today.
