Meghan Markle and Prince Harry might lose their royal titles as soon as the next few months, according to a UK MP who wants to challenge them in the UK Parliament.
In the aftermath of their bombshell Netflix docuseries and Harry's incendiary memoir Spare, Conservative Member of the UK Parliament Bob Seely stated earlier in December that he will be beginning an attempt to draught a measure to strip the Duke and Duchess of Sussex royal titles.
Now, royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti has confirmed Seely's ambitions, telling Fox News that the 56-year-old legislator is 'adamant' about making it happen.
"Seely intends to present a private member's bill that would allow a vote on amending the 1917 Titles Deprivation Act, which was used to deprive the German royal family of their UK titles during World War I," Sacerdoti explained.
"That degree of treachery was viewed as justification to remove royal titles back then," he said, "so it's striking that a sitting MP today feels so strongly about Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, that he wants to use the same statute to deprive them of their titles."
Sacerdoti went on to say that Seely anticipates the measure will be prepared by mid-February, following which a procedure to have it discussed in Parliament will begin.
Sacerdoti commented on the recent events in the royal Sussex drama following the publication of Spare, saying, "The book was perceived by many as undermining the royal family and the monarchy, and it has also been pretty extensively derided in certain areas."
"This isn't how royalty typically acts. "The charges against the royal family in the book are more specific and extensive than ever before, which has reduced Prince Harry's favorability polls and caused many people to wonder why he should continue use his title," he added.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals in 2020 and emigrated to the United States, where they currently live in Montecito, California, with their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
