Shakira allegedly hired an investigator to spy on her then-boyfriend Gerard Pique after he requested some distance from her.
The Waka Waka hitmaker is claimed to have gotten suspicious after receiving a call from the former Barcelona player while in the US filming a programme.
According to Marca Magazine, the sports star asked Shakira to give him some space, which prompted the Columbian singer to seek professional assistance.
"It was then that the Colombian woman took advantage of the circumstances to hire a detective," the hosts of the television show Cuatro al Dia disclosed, according to the magazine.
The detective then pursued Gerard and collected photographs of him with his now-girlfriend Clara Chia Marti, which he delivered to Shakira.
Despite his adultery, Shakira attempted to resolve the situation by encouraging Gerard, with whom she had two sons, Sasha and Milan, to seek couple's counselling.
Gerard refused to attend to the therapist and relocated to an apartment. He later attempted reconciliation, but Shakira rejected, and the couple announced their split.
