The motion picture academy will not remove Andrea Riseborough's surprising best actress nomination for "To Leslie," the group's chief executive announced on Tuesday, following a review of an aggressive campaign on her favour.
Riseborough was nominated for best actress for her role as an alcoholic single mother in the little-seen film, which surprised awards analysts who had not anticipated her to be in the running.
The unexpected selection raised concerns about whether Riseborough's campaign broke the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' lobbying regulations. Several A-list celebrities praised her performance on social media.
The Academy's CEO, Bill Kramer, stated on Tuesday that the organisation "has judged the action in question does not reach to the level that the film's candidature should be retracted."
"However, we discovered some concerning social media and outreach campaigning strategies. These techniques are being handled immediately with the accountable parties "Kramer went on to say.
The academy restricts how studios may reach out to voters, how frequently they can do so, and what they can say in any communications related to their Oscars campaigns.
The Academy Award winners will be announced on March 12...
