Foxx hinted to his personal troubles in a teaser video for the special, which will broadcast on December 10.
"I said, 'If I can stay funny, I can stay alive,'" Foxx says in the teaser, hinting to his endurance.
Foxx was admitted to the hospital in April 2023 for a "medical complication," but no further information was provided. His daughter, Corinne, first broke the news, telling fans that Dad was "already on his way to recovery" while filming Back in Action in Atlanta.
Foxx subsequently thanked his loved ones, notably his sister and daughter, for their support during his rehabilitation.
The Netflix special, directed by Hamish Hamilton and produced by Foxxhole Productions and Done + Dusted, aims to shine light on Foxx's health concern.
