Keanu Reeves, the Canadian actor who will voice 'Shadow' in the next Sonic film, was determined to provide fans with a true representation of the character.
Director Jeff Fowler noted that Reeves was really honest about the part and well prepared for it. He had completed all of his homework for the movie.
During a Q&A session for Sonic Revolution's Shadow Revolution webcast, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 director stated, "It's so awesome that we got Keanu Reeves to voice the character, and he was so fantastic to work with."
"He believes the role is fantastic, and he absolutely understood what we were looking for. He was extremely enthusiastic to do his interpretation of it. Like the rest of the ensemble, [he] is really concerned about getting it right."
Jeff also stated that the John Wick actor provided him with many versions of line readings, rather than simply showing up and reading the script into the microphone.
"He really wanted to create a very fan-faithful version of the character."
The 46-year-old director admitted: "He conducted research. In our initial encounter, he clearly had done his homework, which was great. I can't say enough good things about Keanu and what he contributed to the character and the development of this film. I think people will adore his rendition of Shadow."
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is an upcoming action adventure film starring Reeves with Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Krysten Ritter, and others.
