At the State Banquet held at Buckingham Palace, King Charles welcomed the Emir of Qatar by demonstrating his Arabic language abilities.
On December 3, the king gave a State Banquet to honor Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his wife Jawaher.
The King opened his address with greetings in Arabic: "Your Highnesses, ASSALAMU-ALAYKUM [Peace be upon you]."
He went on: "It gives my wife and myself the greatest possible pleasure to welcome you to Buckingham Palace this evening, on your first State Visit to the United Kingdom."
Furthermore, Charles discussed the link Sheikh Tamim has with the United Kingdom. He talked on how the Emir spent "so many of your younger years at three of our most renowned institutions: Sherborne, Harrow and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst."
The King said, "This evening, I am delighted to mark the renewal of our enduring friendship: HAYYAKUM - MARRATAN UKHRA - FEE AL-MEMLIKA AL-MUTAHHIDA, BALADKOM ATH-THANI." [Welcome back to the UK, your second home].
Notably, King Charles astonished the Emir by repeating a chapter from the Holy Quran that emphasized the value of mankind.
At the close of his address, the King stated, "I am filled with excitement about the opportunities that await our two great nations. Whatever new difficulties and possibilities arise, I am convinced that we will address them together."
