Australian journalist Michael Usher recently appeared on Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie on Nova 96.9, where he candidly recounted his 2011 interview with Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.
In retrospect, Usher called the encounter a "hot mess," pointing to the Duchess' unpredictable behavior that made the session particularly difficult.
Usher claims that during the conversation, Sarah insisted on being referred to as "Duchess" in a formal manner. According to reports, the interview took a dramatic turn when she unexpectedly left the conversation in the middle and returned with a markedly different demeanor.
Convincing her to continue the conversation was "crazy," Usher said, and the change in her attitude that followed was remarkable.
After the interview, Sarah reportedly raced barefoot across the lawn after the film team to get their opinion on her performance. This was a particularly bizarre scene.
Given the erratic nature of the previous session, Usher said he recommended she retake the interview completely. Sarah swiftly shifted the topic, offering to autograph books and asking about the crew's families despite the tumultuous conversation.
Sarah Ferguson is still involved with the royal family; she and her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, currently reside in Windsor's Royal Lodge. She is also well-known for having a strong bond with Queen Elizabeth II, whom she referred to as a mother figure. She currently looks after the late queen's corgis, Sandy and Muick.
