Prince Harry and Meghan Markle honored the achievements of a particular person who has been striving to help a worthy cause.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who founded the Archewell Foundation in 2020 to assist causes near to their hearts, were "thrilled" to congratulate this year's NAACP award winners.
The NAACP-Archewell Digital Civil Rights Award "celebrates leaders who are advancing civil rights in digital spaces and leading the way to build a better online world."
Dr. Alondra Nelson, a sociologist and renowned specialist in artificial intelligence (AI), got the award for her research on "the connections between science, technology, medicine, and social inequality."
Archewell said that "in recognition of her work, Dr Alondra Nelson will receive a $100,000 grant to further her research." She joins other winners of the NAACP-Archewell Digital Civil Rights Awards, including Dr. Safiya Noble (2022), Nabiha Syed (2023), and Dr. Joy Buolamwini (2024).
The announcement from Archewell came only days after King Charles acknowledged his sister Princess Anne's milestone as patron of the WISE Awards, which recognize and address innovative projects.
Anne, who is also the chancellor of University College London, paid a visit to the East Campus to speak with researchers, students, and scientists who are using AI "to train robots to help with search and rescue operations and to make surgery safer and more precise".
