British writer Lee Child considered Alan Ritchson for the Reacher series instead of Tom Cruise.
He has already collaborated with Cruise in the film Jack Reacher (2012). Nonetheless, he picked Ritchson for the part in the action series.
He felt that the Fast X actor would be a better match for the job.
To clarify, Lee conceded that Tom is brilliant and entertaining, but he lacked the key characteristics to fit into the character.
When asked about his experience working with the 62-year-old in 2012, the 70-year-old said, "I thought the first movie in particular was excellent." It was a very clean, hard-edged thriller."
He stated, "Working with Tom was a pleasure and a luxury; he's a really brilliant man, a great director, and a lot of fun. But you can't deny that Reacher is a large dude.
Child thought the Top Gun: Maverick star didn't seem big and terrifying enough for the job.
The author told The Independent that "that is a component in his entire approach to the world and the world's approach to him."
"He's enormous, unstoppable, and terrifying. And, for all of Tom's capacity to reveal Reacher's inner workings, he is neither enormous nor frightening."
Reacher, starring Alan, is based on Lee's Jack Reacher novel series.
