On Monday, Apple released the iOS 18.5 Developer Beta 3 update to developers and beta testers. As with prior generations, it is a modest upgrade for the iPhone that has comparable functions. Along with that, it includes patches for a problem that allowed the new Apple Vision Pro app to display a blank screen in some situations, as well as other known concerns. Shortly later, Apple issued the iOS 18.5 Public Beta 2 update, which included a few modifications from the publicly accessible iOS 18.4.1 version.
What's new in iOS 18.5 Developer Beta 3 and Public Beta 2 updates?
According to Apple, the iOS 18.5 Developer Beta 3 and Public Beta 2 upgrades contain comparable improvements to the Developer Beta 1 version issued earlier this month. Toggling Contact Photos is now available directly from the Mail app's UI by pressing the three-dot option in the top-right corner of the screen. The same capability was previously available in the Settings app, but the update also includes a new shortcut in the Mail app.
Users may also disable the Group by Sender, categories, and AI priority messaging settings in the app by using the same three-dot menu. The AppleCare & Warranty Coverage page has been visually enhanced, and a new AppleCare coverage banner can now be seen in the Settings app. It allows consumers to discover more about the coverage they have purchased simply hitting the link. Apple says iPhone owners may also manage their AppleCare plan by logging in to their Apple Account and choosing a device from the list.
Along with the additions, there are a few bug fixes. According to the Cupertino-based tech behemoth, the most recent upgrades address an issue with the Apple Vision Pro app, which led it to start with a black screen when downloaded from the App Store. They also address a previously reported problem in which the availability of C APIs, which offer direct access to system resources and hardware functionality within the hvf framework, was not correctly verified.
Another previously found and fixed flaw was the StoreKit framework, which developers utilize to deliver features and services for their apps and in-app purchases through the App Store. It caused the isEligibleForIntroOffer(for:) method to return false if the user was not logged in to the device in the StoreKit. Although the aforementioned issues were rectified with iOS 18.5 Developer Beta 1, the current Developer Beta 3 and Public Beta 2 upgrades address them on devices that remain vulnerable.
The upgrades also reveal a new problem. Apple says it is aware of a problem that might cause failure when requesting Siri to play a song from Apple Music across various devices.
