Joe Keery discussed his part as Steven Harrington in Stranger Things and the ramifications of performing it.
Keery's character, Harrington, begins the program as a traditional popular high school student dating Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), but by the conclusion of the first season, he has undergone a redemption arc and begins to care about others more than himself.
In a recent episode of the Zach Sang Show, the Free Guy actor was asked if it is "weird" to play such a "iconic" part that it may be what people identify him with for the "longest of time."
"I mean what a gift it's been to do it," he was saying. "There's a part of me that says, 'No, I'm more than that.'" But I'm not sure; I'm alright with that."
The End of Beginning hitmaker said, "If that's it, what a crazy trip that has been. But I believe it now puts me in a position of privilege to be able to pursue the things I'm truly interested in."
The last season of the supernatural-mystery show finished up production in December, and earlier this year, Keery stated on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that the experience was "crazy."
"It's been around one-third of my life. "I was emotional," Keery explained.
According to Men's Journal, Stranger Things Season 5's first wave of final episodes will premiere in October 2025, although Netflix has yet to announce an official release date.
