Samsung Electronics and Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced that the forthcoming Galaxy S25 Edge will use Corning® Gorilla® Glass Ceramic 2,1—a revolutionary glass ceramic solution that provides superior protection in a new, amazingly small device form factor. Samsung and Corning collaborated to guarantee the premium S series experience combines elegance and robustness, motivated by a common mission to push the frontiers of mobile engineering.
"Galaxy S25 Edge will set a new standard for craftsmanship and performance as our slimmest Galaxy S series device yet," stated Kwangjin Bae, EVP and Head of the Mechanical R&D Team of Samsung's Mobile eXperience Business (MX). "To support this groundbreaking design, it was critical to create a display material that was both incredibly thin and consistently sturdy — a challenge that drew Corning and Samsung together, unified by a similar goal for purposeful engineering and user-centric innovation. That ambition is incorporated in every aspect of the Galaxy S25 Edge."
Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 has precisely embedded crystals in its glass matrix, which improves the display cover's durability and fracture deflection capabilities. The interaction between the glass and crystal components is designed to promote robustness while maintaining excellent optical transparency. Corning's ion exchange technique, which is a vital component in improving damage resistance, fortifies the glass ceramic material and increases the display cover's retained strength.
"With Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, we've achieved a remarkable combination of thinness and strength, giving consumers the best of both worlds—exceptional durability in a modern, sleek, and premium design," said Andrew Beck, Vice President and General Manager of Corning® Gorilla® Glass. "The craftsmanship of Galaxy S25 Edge with Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 underscores Corning and Samsung's commitment to meeting the evolving needs of consumers worldwide."
