Anthropic added a new feature to Claude on Tuesday that allows the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot to create replies in the user's chosen writing style. The new feature, dubbed Custom Style, aims to make the chatbot's replies more consistent with how the user often writes and wants to read. With this personalization function, users may choose from three preset alternatives or provide their own writing sample to have the AI adopt that style. The business has made the new function available to all Claude users.
Anthropic introduces customized styles in Claude
While chatbots driven by large language models (LLMs) may generate material on almost any topic, the writing style is frequently the limiting factor. The AI can sometimes create information in an extremely formal tone that is inappropriate for a communication intended for a friend, or in flowery language that is too dazzling for an academic work.
While certain AI tools, such as Google's Gemini in Gmail and Docs or Samsung's Galaxy AI in Notes, provide users with presets to adjust the tone of the generated output, such capabilities are often not accessible in large AI chatbots. In most circumstances, the only solution is to specify the appropriate writing style directly in each question.
In a press article, Anthropic announced the availability of the Custom Styles tool, which will make this process easier. The new functionality is available to all users on all platforms. To utilize it, navigate to Claude and look for the new quill icon at the bottom of the text box, close to the AI model selection button.
When a user taps on the icon, they will see four preset options: Normal, Concise, Formal, and Explanatory. The Formal style delivers clear and polished replies, whereas the Concise style produces shorter and more direct ones. Anthropic states that the Explanatory style is appropriate for "educational responses for learning new concepts."
Aside from that, users can design unique styles. The technique is straightforward. Users may access the "Create and Edit Styles" option, which opens a new pop-up window. Users can either paste their writing sample or upload a document. Claude can evaluate the material in terms of literary structure, tone, word preference, and other factors.
NewsTainmentOra employees were allowed to try out the functionality. The function seemed to be working well; but, in practice, we discovered that the AI was unable to detect writing subtleties and instead followed the main outlines of the writing style.
