Sydney Sweeney is officially moving up—this time from Hollywood to the gaming world. The Euphoria actor is scheduled to feature in the cinematic adaptation of the blockbuster computer game Split Fiction, and Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu will also direct.
According to Variety, Deadpool & Wolverine screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the script, so anticipate sharp wit, pandemonium, and maybe a few fourth-wall breaks.
Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson will produce the film via their newly rebranded banner Story Kitchen (formerly dj2 Entertainment), in cooperation with Chu's Electric Somewhere.
Sydney will not only star, but also serve as an executive producer.
Split Fiction, the game that began it all, is developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts.
It combines fantasy and sci-fi in a co-op adventure where two authors, Mio and Zoe, become stuck in the worlds they created.
The game, developed by Hazelight director Josef Fares and Sebastian Johansson, has split-screen elements, distinct character skills, and just the perfect amount of inventive gameplay.
So yet, it's unknown whether Sweeney will play Mio or Zoe—two very distinct characters with their own personalities and challenges—but fans are already buzzing with anticipation.
And it's simple to understand why.
Split Fiction has been a runaway success since its March 6 debut, selling over two million copies in its first week and earning excellent reviews.
The momentum has not slowed, with numbers increasing and player excitement remaining strong.
Variety initially reported in March that a movie was in the works, sparking a studio bidding frenzy during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
