George Clooney has never been one to hold back, and this time, he's engaged in a headline-worthy exchange with none other than Megyn Kelly.
The friendly fire began during his interview with Patti LuPone for Variety's Broadway Actors on Actor*, when the actor took the opportunity to address some of the criticisms he'd received, notably from Kelly.
"I don't care what they say," Clooney stated when asked about the criticism he has received for his political views.
He pointed straight at Kelly, adding, "You see Megyn Kelly, who has come out and declared I'm not a journalist. "I did not say I was a journalist."
Clooney's comments were in relation to his Broadway production of Good Night, and Good Luck, in which he plays famed journalist Edward R. Murrow. The production concludes with a montage of genuine footage of numerous personalities, including Kelly, whose previous statements are utilized without narration or editorializing.
"I've traveled to Darfur, Sudan, and the Congo, and I've been shot at while trying to tell tales. "I'm not sure what she did to become a journalist," Clooney continued.
"Having stated that, we solely use her words in this play. We don't tell others what to think. It is not out of context. We do not modify it. We actually said, 'These are your words.'"
Megyn Kelly, let's just say, didn't take it laying down. On the April 23 episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, she kicked off her show with a blistering 11-minute clapback that left no stone untouched.
"He's starring in a play about Edward R. Murrow because Clooney fancies himself a journalist, you see, and has a lot of ideas about how journalists should do journalism," she said, before delving into Clooney's 2023 New York Times op-ed calling for President Biden to resign.
"That is not journalism, George; it is weakness and outright partisanship. Kelly responded, "You aren't fooling anyone."
"He's currently starring in his Broadway musical. By the way, George, what is the matter? Are Hollywood parts becoming harder to come by as you become older and more arrogant and self-congratulatory? "I am just asking!"
Kelly also targeted Clooney's stage companion, Patti LuPone, calling her "Broadway's biggest and oldest bully."
