Xiaomi unveiled its latest electric vehicle (EV), the Xiaomi YU7, for the Chinese market on Tuesday. It is expected to join the Chinese company's increasing fleet of electric vehicles, which began in March with the introduction of the Xiaomi SU7, a four-door sedan EV designed to bring a blend of elegance and performance. Although features have yet to be published, the Xiaomi YU7 is expected to be the company's SUV offering, competing with the Tesla Model X and BYD Sealion 07 in China's extremely competitive electric vehicle market.
Xiaomi YU7 Announcement
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun took to X (previously Twitter) to release photographs of the forthcoming Xiaomi YU7 EV. According to the official, it will launch in "June or July" of next year. The business claims it was released ahead of schedule, allowing it to begin long-term and large-scale testing without being substantially hidden.
The Xiaomi YU7 strongly pulls design elements from the company's existing SU7 sedan, featuring a very similar front fascia that also looks to resemble the Porsche Taycan electric vehicle. Meanwhile, the general interior shape is similar to the Ferrari Purosangue, the Italian automaker's high-performance four-door SUV.
The design has a sloping roofline, LED headlights with daytime running lights (DRLs), linked LED tail lamps, and flush-fitting door handles. The teaser photos also suggest the addition of front and rear disc brakes.
According to media sources, the Xiaomi YU7 EV was listed in a post on China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) website about the next batch of cars that will soon be authorized to be marketed in the nation, exposing some of its key specs. It will allegedly measure 4,999 x 1,996 x 1,600mm in size, with a curb weight of 2405kg and a 3,000mm wheelbase.
The Xiaomi YU7 will apparently be driven by two electric motors positioned at the front and back axles, with a combined power output of 220kW and 280kW. The EV is also rumored to include a battery pack from CATL, however the capacity is unclear.
