Prince George, the eldest son of Prince William and Princess Kate, has always been in the spotlight owing to his upcoming position as King.
Despite this, his parents have gone to tremendous pains to ensure that he enjoys a normal life, even keeping the entire nature of his royal future a secret throughout his early years.
Prince George was destined for the throne from birth, making his position in the royal family unique and unusual.
However, Prince William and Princess Kate have worked tirelessly to shelter their son from the weight of this duty for as long as possible, hoping to give him a childhood free of the pressures of his future role.
During George's childhood, his parents kept his eventual role as King a secret. While he was aware that he was a prince, it wasn't until he was roughly seven years old, in the summer of 2020, that William and Kate revealed to him that he would one day become King of the United Kingdom.
In his work Battle of Brothers, royal analyst and historian Robert Lacey stated: "William has not revealed to the world how and when he broke the big news to his son."
"Perhaps someday George will give us the story himself. However, around the boy's seventh birthday in the summer of 2020, it is said that his parents delved into further depth about what the child prince's future royal'service and duty' will entail.
